Oats

 This morning I made oatmeal from scratch for the first time ever.  Before today I’ve only ever used instant oatmeal packets and let me tell you, the difference is significant.

Sure, it takes 15 whole minutes to make them from scratch on the stove.  Who has that kind of time???  For you lazy-wads, you can also make them in the microwave.

I simmered mine with a dash of cinnamon and some maple syrup.  Then I spooned it into a big bowl and drizzled soy milk on top and dropped about a half cup of fresh blueberries on top.  IT WAS SO FUCKING GOOD FOR REAL.  It was thick but not clumpy or gooey or sticky.  It was warm and gave my tummy some hugs on this yucky rainy morning.

Bobby, who previously disliked oatmeal (the baby cereal and instant packet kind) ate his entire bowl.

This is obviously a weekend thing but now I’m wondering;

Can you cook a big batch beforehand and reheat? How do you do that without making it a big gooey mess?  Advice needed.

On this day:

In 2008 –
In 2007 – a list of my favorite bands at the time and chili tips
In 2006 – a hose, 2 paintbrushes and computer speakers
In 2005 – well that obviously didn’t happen

    I do and I don’t own a microwave~ they’re icky.
    reheat in a saucepan, you’ll need to add a lil liquid.

    Yum, I love home made oatmeal. 🙂
    Something else to try (maybe when it’s winter again, as it requires the oven): Baked Oatmeal.

    In the winter & on cold days homemade oatmeal is my go-to breakfast. This girl has the best recipes, the whipped banana in it is SO delicious,

    a friend of mine cooks ahead, then freezes them in portions. she calls them breakfast bombs 🙂 apparently nuking them makes for a quick nicer tasting oatmeal. i have to confess that i am not a big oatmeal fan, but i keep meaning to try steel cut oats as the texture is different. & those take a while to cook.

    I make porridge in the microwave because it only takes 2 and a half minutes, it can still be doctored up with any combination of goodies you desire (spices, berries, currants, nuts, flax meal, maple syrup, the list goes on) – so it’s quick and no saucepan to clean.

    making your own oatmeal is totally underrated – it always comes out better than the quaker instant oatmeal stuff and you can decide how thick/thin you want it to be. you’re making me hungry for oatmeal.
