Métis research – slow going

So after my research gaffe, it kind of just slipped my mind for a while.  I mean, I didn’t FORGET but there was lots of other stuff on my mind like starting back at work and dealing with Bobby’s new routine and super secret projects etc.

Today Brent wanted to got to a comic book store and we agreed to go to one a little further away that is pretty much across the street from Cora’s. Then we could have breakfast, Brent could get comics and everyone would be happy.  We got there just in time.  After we were seated there was a line out the door!  Crazy people!  It’s not wait-in-line-for-30-minutes good!!!  But it’s still good.

Bobby went INSANE!  He had so much fun colouring and staring at other kids and looking out the window.  It was totally awesome.

Anyways we went to the comic book store after and I remembered that there was a graphic novel about Louis Riel (the most famous Métis in Canada).  I had read a portion of it in the comics edition of McSweeney’s Quarterly Concern and someone mentioned it to me again while pointing out my ludicrous research mistake so I picked it up.

All this to say that I haven’t actually started researching yet but I did buy one book and bookmark a bunch of websites, so I’m invested in it for sure.

The links I have saved so far are:

Wikipedia (as a jumping off point/overview)
The Canadian Encyclopedia
Métis National Council

All those links also have more links so I should be covered for web research as far as massively accepted perspectives go however I’d be interested in any leads on information with views that may not be so accepted as well.

I’ll read the book after I finish my current one, which is pretty much all about raising an emotionally literate boy because I’d rather die a horrible death than raise a boy who thinks the only emotions in existence are happy and angry.

On this day:

In 2008 –
In 2007 – scritch feet
In 2006 – wow the floors look so CLEAN!  That’s the difference between one dog that sheds a lot and two dogs that shed a lot
In 2005 – Brent is sneaky

Here is a link to the only website I read up on our “Montagnais” heritage.

Oh I thought you meant that you knew specifics about how this is part of our family tree.

Nooooo… Other than I know that it’s from grandma’s side. I think it was her grandmother who was Montagnais. Tante Yvonne can give you more insight into this I’m sure. I think she did a family tree a long time ago. Maybe mom has a copy or knows how to get it.
